Opal G. Poppell, 90 of Tallahassee, died September 18, 2013. Opal was born April 13, 1923 in Concord, FL to Lonnie and Annie Mae (Stephens) Poppell and moved to Tallahassee in 1953 coming from Havana. Opal is a WWII Army Veteran having served in the 3787th Quartermaster Truck Company and was a faithful member of Evangel Assembly of God Church in Tallahassee. Opal is a retired carpenter and was employed with FSU for over 29 years. After his retirement, Opal continued his work with Royster’s Storage Trailers. He was united in marriage on March 24, 1950 in Quincy to his wife, Myrtice who resides in Tallahassee. Opal is also survived by his son, Randy Poppell of Tallahassee; his daughter, Linda (Richard) Royster of Tallahassee; a cousin, Bill (Martha) Williams of Bainbridge, GA; sister, Betty Johnson of Havana, FL; his grandchildren, Travis Poppell, Stacie (Lee Boatwright), Michelle (Lance) Royster-Hart and Rick (Bridgette) Royster all of Tallahassee and his great-grandchildren, Elle Hart, Hayley Hart, Ridleigh Poppell and Cooper Royster and many dear and devoted friends, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday from 6-8 pm at the Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday at the Evangel Assembly of God church. Interment will take place in Tallahassee Memorial Gardens.
