Teddy graduated from Leon High School. He was married to Edna Mae (Chambers) Sweeney on January 28th, 1956. Teddy worked as a mechanic / machinist for Elberta Crate, Chevrolet Monticello, was a mechanic with Florida Marine Patrol, and was the owner of University Sports Car.
He retired from the Army National Guard in 1991 after serving as an SFC with the 144th Transportation Unit out of Marianna, Florida and was activated during Desert Storm in 1991 and retired upon return to the States.
Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae (Goings) Sweeney and Nelson I. Sweeney Sr.; his wife, Edna Mae Sweeney; daughters, Edna Leigh O’Neal and Rene’ Stewart; his brother, James T. (Buddy) Sweeney (Liselotte); Elizabeth Depamphilis; Fredrica Drewa; and Lillian Deesen. He is survived by daughter, Joyce Raum (Ronnie); son, Nelson I. Sweeney III (Dawn); daughter JoJo Aaron (Tom deceased); and his brother, Harvey Sweeney (Jeanette).
Teddy is also survived by ten grandchildren, Tommy Jourdan; Rhett Raum; Rene’ Raum VanVeghten; Sidney O’Neal; Parker Aaron; Nelson "Eli" I. Sweeney, IV; Eric Sweeney; Callie Mae Sweeney; Michael Dreyer; and Grace Dreyer. Thirteen great grandchildren, Stephanie Jourdan Thompson; Alexis Jourdan Soto; OuLi Jourdan; Molly VanVeghten; Gretchen VanVeghten; Sara O’Neal; Jackson O’Neal; Chloe O’Neal; Dutton Aaron; Nelson "Tyson" I. Sweeney, V; Axel Sweeney; Anna Sweeney; and Erica Sweeney. One great-great grandchild, Archie Thompson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
His lifetime hobbies and interests were waterskiing and teaching his children, nephews and nieces to ski, snow skiing in Colorado with wife and friends, hunting and fishing, and stock car racing pit crew with friends and his son. He enjoyed family reunions and holiday gatherings.
Graveside Service with Military Honors Saturday January 14th, 2023, 2:00 pm, Memory Gardens. Followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at an off-site event center.
