Born in Indonesia on July 15, 1938, she embarked on a remarkable journey spanned decades and continents. After completing her studies in Biology at Jinan University from 1960 to 1964, Meiqin’s passion for the natural world led her to the Institute of Oceanology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. For 23 years, she devoted her time and effort to understanding oceanography and microbiology, leaving an incredible mark on the scientific community.
In 1987, Meiqin made Florida her home. She contributed her expertise to institutions such as Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and the Florida State Department of Environmental Protection until her retirement in 2016.
Beyond her professional achievements, Meiqin had a warm heart and was always eager to help others in need. She enjoyed painting, listening to music, singing, and exercising. Meiqin was a loyal wife who selflessly supported her husband in every step of their lives together. Her steady temperament and wisdom created a healthy, nurturing environment for her children. She helped raise her seven grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow into whom they are now.
Meiqin is survived by her caring husband of 58 years, Maosen; three children, Wei, Ping, and Susan; cherished grandchildren; and her sisters. As we bid farewell to this amazing woman, let us remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched.
May her soul find eternal peace and forever be remembered. 🌹
