Maxine Ellis Waller was born in Montgomery, Alabama. She also spent part of her childhood in Laurel Hill, Florida, just outside Crestview. She returned to Montgomery, Alabama as a young adult and completed Business School. She worked at Morrison’s Cafeteria as a bookkeeper. While working there, she was asked to model for some local businesses and was selected as the local Cotton Queen. Soon after, she was selected to attend Southern Airlines’ stewardess training and later flew for National Airlines. She escorted POW’s back from WWII.
In 1954, Maxine married Charlie Waller, who at that time was a college football coach. She later enjoyed her husband’s career as a professional football coach. She and Coach Waller were married until his death in 2009 for 55 years. She was a homemaker, loved to cook, garden, watch football and travel. She especially loved her family. She is survived by her five daughters, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 5, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Mulligan Park’s, Chapel Room, 1800 Hermitage Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
