Born in Bogotá, Colombia, she immigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s via New York. She married Dr. Hernando Muñoz and they lived in Brooklyn and New Jersey for several years. She became a U.S. in 1956. Eventually she and Hernando moved to Tallahassee where she remained throughout her life.
Matilde graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked as a graphic designer and loved to paint and create artwork, which are displayed in the homes of all her family members to be cherished for generations to come.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hernando; her sister, Margarita; and brother Carlos. She is survived by her children, Philip Muñoz (Karen), Andrew Muñoz, Sandra Muñoz Jernigan (Jeff), and Monica Muñoz; her sister, Susan; and grandchildren, Parker Jernigan (Meredith) and Hayden Jernigan (Amy).
Due to COVID-19, a private ceremony will be held.
