Mary received Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mary received her education in the San Francisco and San Mateo school systems. In the early ’70s, Mary worked as a teacher and attended College with an aspiration to become a flight attendant. She also worked at the local community center as a lifeguard.
Later, in 1976, Mary gave birth to her only daughter Theresa Marie Harris. Most of Mary’s life was spent in the community of East Palo Alto. Before the Earthquake of 1989, Mary worked for Moss Industrial. Shortly, the company moved across the Dumbarton Bridge, and she was employed with SMAC Industries. Both being Sheetmetal Companies, Mary ended up finding her home here and retired in 1992.
Mary’s life after that was spent working on her relationships with God, herself, and her family. She had a hand in raising a multitude of children in the community as well as giving wise and sound advice to people that she encountered. In 2008, Mary moved to Georgia with her daughter and helped raise her grandson as well. Mary spent her time in the community, helping children with schoolwork, and encouraging reading.
The family later moved to Florida in 2012, and from there, Mary continued working on her relationships with God, herself and family. It wasn’t until 2015 when Mary’s health started to decline. Under the advice of her doctors and daughter, Mary moved to Crawfordville, FL, in an attempt to obtain the special care that was needed to help her get better.
On the early morning of Tuesday, September 17, 2019, Mary Louise Harris departed this world and went with Christ our Lord and Savior. Preceding her in death were her Mother, Elizabeth Guillory-Harris; Brother, Marvin Harris and Sister, Christine Harris.
She leaves to celebrate her Homegoing: her beloved daughter, Theresa Harris; loving parents Melvin and Helen Harris; her Brothers Michael Harris and Robert Harris; Grandson Tessari Harris; Great-Grandson Ta’Zavier Harris; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loving friends.
