Mary Nell Brookins Anderson (Nellie), age 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in Lakeland, Florida. Nellie was born in Marianna, Florida, on December 12, 1930, to David and Eddie Brookins.
On March 25, 1950, Nellie married the love of her life, Earl Anderson in Pensacola, Florida. They made their home in Pensacola so that Earl could finish his tour of duty in the Air Force. Once he was discharged, Earl joined the Florida Highway Patrol and he and Nellie resided in Marianna for a number of years. During this time, their son, David was born. In 1964, the family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and made it their home for the remainder of their life together. During this time, Nellie worked as a secretary in the office of the Secretary of State and later in the office of the Governor for twenty-five years.
Nellie's passion was cooking and tending to her camellia shrubs. She also loved doing the Lord's work by serving and caring for members of the church who were in need. As a long time member of the Timberlane Church of Christ, she and Earl had visitors and friends for lunch most Sunday afternoons.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Earl and her son Bill.
Nellie is survived by her children, David Anderson and his wife Tonya and LaNita Anderson Shirah and her husband James. She is also survived by her grandchildren, TaLeah Anderson, Tyler Anderson and his wife Jessica, Alex Cutts and Max Cutts. She also has four Great-grandchildren, Leigha and James Cutts and Harper and Sawyer Anderson.
A visitation (eastern standard time) for Mary will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Timberlane Church of Christ, 3569 Timberlane School Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312, followed by a funeral at 11:00 AM.
Nellie will be interred in the Ramer Cemetery in Cottonwood, Alabama.
