Treating all persons equally, with dignity, regardless of occupation, education, race, origins or religion—that’s what made Margarita H. Grant special, a leader by deed with no trace of fanfare. Margarita passed at Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee, Florida on November 20, 2022.
She was born in Mexico City on March 29, 1926 to Guadalupe and Jack Henderson. Her mother, Guadalupe, was the youngest sister of Matilde Calderon Kahlo, mother of the artist Frida Kahlo. Jack, her father, was son of a Scottish railroad engineer, who transplanted to Mexico. Margarita had three brothers and two sisters; her youngest sister, Guadalupe lives in Mexico. Margarita attended Catholic school, graduated from a British high school, completed a three-year business course and studied at the University of Mexico. Working at the American Embassy, Margarita met Sydney Grant, an educator pursuing his Masters in Spanish, and thus began a married life of living worldwide in Lima, New York City, Seattle, Namibia and thankfully Tallahassee where she worked at William J. Roberts law firm, where Sydney taught in international studies at Florida State University until he passed in 2009, and where so many of us loved her and wanted so often to be in her generous presence.
