what can i say about bob which has not been said. i first met bob on a bill glass prison weekend, in may of 1973. one thing that impressed me was how bold he was about his witness. after the initial greeting, he then proceeded where will you spend eternity. the following years being with bob on those precious weekends, he never changed, it was always down to business with bob, where do you stand with the Lord?

I had a famous former cleveland browns defensive lineman jerry sherk on at texas weekend. i introduced jerry to bob that thursday eveing. bob grabbed him around the neck and said, do you know the Lord as savior? was have scared jerry silly. the next day jerry went with me to a couple of prisons. following the friday event, the texas department of corrections (TDC) invited the teammates to a barbeque. jerry told the driver to take him back to the hotel. when i returned to the room, jerry was not there. on note on the bed read i can't take it, have to go. found out later he took a $50 cab fare from huntsvile to houston to catch a flight back to his home in san diego. jerry never went with me on another prison weekend.

many years later bob was speaking to a mens ground in elyria, ohio, where my mother and step father lived. i asked bob if he would share with my father. bob never hestitated. i remember bob sitting down with my father and he didn't rush his witness. in fact i was sitting there thinking what are you waiting for. bob said is there any reason why you shouldn't receive Christ as savior and Lord. my father prayed the sinners' prayer.

i guess thats how i will always remember him, a great warrior who not only lived the life, but showed how it should be to others.

can't wait to see him again and rehash all those special moments.

Knowing Bob Cole was a true blessing sent from above. I have many fond memories of good conversations that have shaped my life in such a positive way. He loved the Lord and his family in ways that few people get to experience. He had a love for his sweetheart that you rarely find other than in romance novels and his heart was always filled with love and pride for his son and Diana was so special to him. He had a way of touching your life in a ways you never even realized needed to be touch. My love and prayers go out to family who I know miss him dearly. I had a few more conversations I wanted to have myself but I will save them "until we meet again."

It is hard to believe a month has passed since Bob was called to be with Christ. You can't think about Bob or talk about him without smiling.  He taught me so much about serving our Lord to the "least of these" and then he contiued to teach me by his example on how to leave this world and enter Heaven.  I miss him dearly. I am so honored and blessed to have known him on his journey.  I will never forget nor be able to repay the "Gems" he taught me just by being Bob.
Betty, Robert, Diana, and Lori, I know there are no words even after some time has passed to truly ease the pain of missing him, but know that each of you are in our prayers and our hearts each day. We love you dearly.

I miss my buddy!  He was a "cool dude"--no matter what his circumstances he always made me feel better.  I loved all of his stories--old and new--Con man and missionary in the prisons--:so tale" (never figgured out what that meant!), jokes and his spin on current events. His counsel about my farm was priceless--through the sale, foreclosure, and rezoning--He always was most anxious about "my deal".  I will see him--"here, there or in the air"

Bob was one of my dearest friends for so many years.  We spent time working together, playing golf together, going into prisons together (but we got out each Sunday)and help start Celebration Baptist Church.  We both enjoyed working hard and playing hard....and had a lot of fun doing both.  My family all loved Bob and Betty.  I really miss him and look forward to spending time with him in Heaven.  J. T. Bob Cole was a trophy of the grace of God.  When his life was turned around, he became one of th most fervent and loving witnesses to the gospel I've ever known.  Large of body and even larger of spirit, he wanted everyone to know Jesus as he did.

For many years we worked together in the Bill Glass Prison Ministries, (Champions for Life), and I marveled at his ability to relate quickly to inmates at all levels.  With his card and coin tricks he gained their interest, but his rapid-fire speech laced with humor always pointed to Jesus.

"Bunch-shooting" he called it, for in prison the inmates knew they were in trouble.  Only God knows how many thousands came to know Christ through his ministry both inside and outside of prisons.

At his own expense he gave students graduating from Southwestern Seminary copies of his book, "Gems for the Journey".  And from time to time he would call by cell phone to visit, always with his beloved Betty in the room with him.


His farewell usually was, "I love you, and there's nothing you can do about it!"

Betty, I will not forget getting to know you and Bob on those 18 hour road trips to Miami twenty years ago to look at real estate investments.  Our conversations were always so interesting to me and we covered it all-politics, real estate, my family and your family, Bob’s life before Christ ( I had to pull the details out of him because he didn’t want to glorify that part of his life), and his favorite subject-his life after he accepted Christ.  Bob did magic for our 10 year old daughter’s birthday party (she’s now 30) while he was wearing a heart monitor.  You and Bob took Carol and me under your wings when we joined BFBC and we renewed our friendship over frequent lunches after church.  Carol and I will miss Bob’s humor, his uplifting spirit and enthusiasm, the interest he took in my business and my family,and especially his loyal friendship.  There have been few men like Bob.  His life was a life lived well.

Bob Cole fully and genuinely embodied the phrase, "a true man of God." The fruits of his labors on behalf of the Lord will continue to be harvested far into the future. It was a privilege and a blessing to have known him. He told me not long before he passed that he was facing a "win-win" situation. If he lived, he had more time to spend with his beloved wife, Betty. If he passed on, he would be with the Lord. Most assuredly, he can't be replaced, but he leaves a powerful example to all of us of what being "sold out" for Christ really looks like.

Bob was a special person to me.  I attended my first Bill Glass Prison Ministry weekend in May of 1981 and Bob was my coordinator.  There were only 9 of us on that team and we had a very meaningful time serving the Lord together.  Over the years I learned a lot of how God will use our availability from Bob.  I will miss his big laugh and booming voice.  I and my family have all been blessed for having known Bob and serving the Lord with him.

Bob Cole was a dear friend for many years.  I'll never forget his endearing smile and wonderful sense of humor.  But his most outstanding attribute was his love for the Lord Jesus and his willingness to share his powerful personal testimony with everyone.

I have known the Cole Family for over 25 years now and Bob's book, Gems for the Journey, is in my house as well as in the hands of my Mother and many of her friends. He leaves many a good memory and words strung together in print in such a way that it is like Bob is right there talking to you. A memorable man with an equally memorable faith leaving behind a great family and a faith that will live on forever. We owe Bob a thank you for touching our lives in so many ways, for someone like me, it is the book--Gems for the Journey that will be read for many years to come. Never have I met a man who had such a love for and a close relationship with Jesus Christ.  Since meeting Bob over 20 years ago and partnering with him in prison ministry, he has served as a spiritual magnet for me and my ministry.  I'm sure many others can join me in personal testimony that Bob Cole is the wisest spiritual mentor that God had priviledge them to know and love; As a giant in many ways, his unusual gift to articulate the Gospel was beyond measure.   And Betty, I want to thank you for your love and dedication to Bob and our Lord; Without question you have been faithful, loyal, and instrumental throughout Bob's ministry, from the day you introduced him to the Lord until his graduation day of meeting his Savior face to face. Bob exemplified the most admirable traits of a Christian.  He was a man of great faith and he was not timid about sharing his faith with anyone who would give him the opportunity.  Bob’s positive approach to life was contagious as was his big laugh.   Carol and I will miss his magic tricks and his magical stories. Bob was always seeking innovative ways to share the Gospel. Bob's transformed life was a living miracle of God's grace. He wanted others to hear the powerful Word of God. During my visit of June 14, 2010,Bob recited the lyrics to the folk song "Show Me The Way To Go Home". Bob shared his ideas how he would use the song's title to focus on God's eternal home as opposed to a tired traveler seeking a temporary place of rest. Bob concluded our visit by saying au revoir, until we meet again, rather than just goodbye. Bob also added the expression adieu explaining that among French Christians adieu carries the meaning "until we meet again in the presence of God".

 Bob was the FIRST one to suggest we expand the Prison Ministry into the YOUTH AREAS. After discussing this with Bill in the early eighties, we IMMEDIATELY ADDED ALL of the youth facilities within driving distance of our main headquarters.  Thousands of kids know Jesus as a result of Bob's ideas and great testimony...He and Betty have deeply touched my heart and soul..DAN LEARY

The last time I spoke to Bob on the phone was about 2.5 weeks ago. He was at Hospice House and Betty put him on the phone. I believe at that time both he and Betty knew that he was on the final journey to his eternal home. I wondered exactly what I would say to him, but after I said 'hello, Bob', he asked about my 98-year old mother who was having some health issues! I was speechless when he asked, "How's Helen?" The compassion and caring Bob had was not store bought! It was so real and sincere. He followed up by letting me know that he would pray for my mother's condition and ask for my prayers for he and Betty. Bob was one of a kind and I feel so blessed to have known both him and Betty. To Betty and family: You will be in our hearts always!

Bob was one of my heroes of the faith. He welcomed me and my family to Lexington with open arms and was a true friend to my father and faithful ambassador for Jesus. My prayers go out to Betty, Robert and the family.

Betty, Jerald & I will  miss the fellowship we shared with you and Bob at Wednesday night suppers. His love for Christ was contiguous.  Bob always made us feel so special.

In my 24 years as a chaplain and 14 years as a volunteer in the Florida Dept. of Corrections Bob has always been consistent in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with boldness and sincerity though often with humor and frankness.  On many occasions when he went with us into prisons from First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida Bob didn't have the energy to stand as he spoke.  However, it was a joy to see inmates swarm all around him, clinging too every word, and responding to the gospel call.We pray for Betty and Robert in your loss but rejoice that we will meet again.

One of the fondest memories I have with Bob was at the Cleveland, Ohio Bill Glass Wekend of Champions prison ministry in 2004.  My wife, Stefanie, and I were serving in the Hospitality Room, and Bob was one of the "Platform Guests"  He was such a blessing to my kids, entertaining them with magic tricks.  Our Cleveland event only takes place every 3 years, and ironically, it is happening this week!  From all the Bill Glass volunteers in Cleveland and around the world, we say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!  We will miss you, but look forward to the day that we are all reunited!"

I had the priviledge of working side by side with Bob at least twice a year in prisons throughout Florida over the last 10 or 15 years. When we would be saying goodbye to each other, he would always say "I love you, and there is not a thing you can do about it". I learned many things from Bob over the years and I will miss him. I expect when I get to heaven, he will have some new card tricks to show me, all with a big smile on his face.

What a God-honoring way to spend a life.  We thank the whole family for your support of Mr. Coles ministry for the cause of Jesus Christ.  May the peace and love of God comfort you at this time of grief and by the grace of God, JOY.

It was such a privilege and blessing to work with him - always refreshing!

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Cole during prison ministries one year when we (Prison ministries) were in Lake City getting ready to visit Baker CI and Columbia CI.  From the brief interaction I had with him, I knew that he was a very warm, friendly and very knowledgeable person.  Our fellowship has lost a dedicated soldier for Christ.

I met Bob in 2003 on my first prison weekend with Bill Glass.  He was so entertaining, but had a great love for Jesus, and loved to tell people that Jesus could change a man's life, as He did his own.  If card tricks are in heaven, then Bob will be entertaining some angels there.

Bob was one of the great hero's of the faith. His testimony in prison captivated all who were on the yard. He made the men laugh and then he told them about Jesus.

I did not personally meet Bob on a Bill Glass crusade but I did have the opportunity to hear him speak.  What I learned by listening to this man was that he had a heart for lost souls.  His method was never to humiliate or scorn those that did not know better.  This is what I learned from him, many people take the Lord's name in vain.  He said that when they do that he says Praise the Lord, when wondering and asking why he did that, his response was he wanted to give God equal time.  I will never forget. A worker for the Lord whose book means a lot to my Mom.  Truly a life and home going to celebrate!!!   My family's best wishes in this bitter sweet time.

Honestly, I knew Bob only through this ministry, and appreciated his
warmth and dedication very much! What we'll continue to need are men and women of God to stand up and lead! Bob was a leader and I admired him
for that. I servant of Christ and proof the our living Lord still changes lives,
even of those of us who have only been locked-up on weekends. We will all miss Bob, and do look forward to seeing him in glory once again!

He and I had shared some funny stories about the auto business, and he was never short on comments on any subject!! It was always exciting working with Bob in the prisons.  The prisoners loved him!   Celebrating his life and homegoing.

I sat at Bob’s feet and learned how to share my faith in Jesus…now Bob sits with Him.

Bob was a wonderful friend and brother in Christ. I will remember fondly all of the great times of ministry in the prisons we shared. His passion for seeing men and women come to Christ is an inspiration to all who knew him.

Knowing you was such a pleasure. Your kind heart and big smile will be greatly missed. You have touched so many lives and for that you will never be forgotten..Love you always
