Mr. Cole was a veteran of World War II stationed in England serving with the US Army. He was engaged in the automobile business over 21 years in Lexington, KY before moving to Tallahassee, Florida in 1979 where he was Vice President in real estate development for Killearn Properties until retirement. He was a member of Bradfordville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Since 1972, he had been active in Prison Ministries including Bill Glass Ministry’s Champions for Life, serving tirelessly as a volunteer counselor and platform guest for 38 years. Mr. Cole was a published Author of Gems for the Journey. He was a public speaker for various organizations such as churches, businesses, civic, and schools delivering keynote addresses as well as national business conferences. Mr. Cole had been active in Southern Baptist work both in Kentucky and Florida, addressing The Southern Baptist Convention, State Evangelism Conferences and various seminars. He served on the Florida Leadership Prayer Breakfast, Executive Committee for the Central Kentucky Billy Graham Crusade and as Chairman for the Greater Lexington Crusade with Bill Glass. At every invitation and opportunity, Bob spoke of his faith in the Lord and his desire that every person he met might have that same precious relationship with Christ. From prison counselor to chapel speaker for many Major League baseball teams, he gained the respect and trust of those who were fortunate enough to hear his words.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Aldridge Cole, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. & Diana T. Cole of Jacksonville, FL, a daughter, Lorelyn Settle of Okeechobee, FL along with two grandchildren, Stefanie and Scott Settle and a great granddaughter, Haley Settle all of Okeechobee, FL.
Internment will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Oaklawn Cemetery, Jacksonville Florida. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 am Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Bradfordville First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice and Bradfordville First Baptist Church both of Tallahassee Florida and Bill Glass Prison Ministry, Champions for Life, Dallas Texas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
