Leah McCabe, age 87 of Tallahassee, Florida passed away peacefully on October 7, 2018 surrounded by loving family. Leah was born Leah Bernice Tabor in St. Paul, Minnesota to Susan (Barr) and Theodore Tabor. She attended Marshall High School, St. Paul, MN class of ’49. In addition, Leah has lived in Palatine, IL and Tampa, FL. She was a dedicated wife and mother, as well as a 20-year employee of the Boy Scouts of America.
On May 17, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward John McCabe, who after 66 yrs. of marriage, preceded her in death.
Leah was a lifetime sports fan. She loved following many teams and many sports. She loved fishing, enjoyed the Chicago Cubs from her days spent living in Chicago, she had a soft spot for Notre Dame and enjoyed all of the FSU teams, going to as many of the games that she could. There was also the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The teams she rooted the loudest for were any teams her own family members participated in.
Her favorite time spent was with her family and friends. We will always remember her years of meals prepared with love, especially that banana bread! Leah loved to laugh, everything family, Saturdays at Beef O’Bradys with family and friends, and of course, always a cold Miller Lite. She was always the life of the party. She was a vibrant, caring person that was very loved and will be missed by all those who were fortunate to have been a part of her life.
Leah is survived by her children: Edward McCabe, Jr., Suzy Giese, Linda Johnson, Tim (Shari) McCabe, Kathleen McCabe, Judy (Stephen) Hodge, Mary Jo McCabe, Charlee Day, Her 17 grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael Quirin) Giese, Jodi (Dave) Cullen, Jacquelyn (Steve) Huisman, Jillian Giese, Charles (Katy) Johnson, Patrick (Kellie) McCabe, Kevin McCabe, Alyson (Nick) Calo, Taylor McCabe, Teri (Bram) Hagen, JoAnna Hodge, Michelle (Clint) Brown, Dayton McCabe, Sara McCabe, Jt Day, Alex Day, Scotti Day and 8 great grandchildren: Cameron Cullen Karissa Cullen, Hunter Huisman Rebecca Huisman, Mark Quirin, Theodore McCabe, Kenzie Johnson and Sloane Johnson , brother/sister in laws: John (Doris) McCabe, Joan (Duane) McCabe Hetland and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death, besides her loving husband, brother/sister in laws, William McCabe, Robert and Catherine Collins, Louis and Evelyn Gellerman, son-in-law, Donald Giese and daughter-in-law Maria (nee Schmelz) McCabe.
Her family would like to thank all the kind people she met along the way, including the folks at St. Thomas More, Walgreens Pharmacy (on Ocala Road, Tallahassee) and the wonderful physicians and the family at TMH and Big Bend Hospice, for helping Leah throughout her journey.
A mass and reception to celebrate her life, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Leah has requested donations be made to Big Bend Hospice or the American Heart Association.
