Laurie Fagan Wilson, age 100, of Westminster Oaks, Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2013.
She was the beloved mother of Wynnelle, John (Elizabeth), and Charles (Donna) Wilson; grandmother to Krista Kyle (Chris) Martin, Megan Wilson, Laurie (Andrew) Peterson, Alexis Myrick (Bryan) Christensen, and Lauren Lucinda Loyd Wilson and great-grandmother of Kelsey Marie and Haley Rose Martin and Avery June Peterson.
Laurie and her twin sister Rose were born in Atlanta, GA, on July 3, 1912, to Charles D. Fagan and Nell Covington Fagan. Laurie and Rose graduated from Girl's High in Atlanta., Laurie later married the love of her life, John Loyd Wilson, Jr., in 1941, after his graduation from Georgia Tech, and Laurie began her long career as a military wife and mother when John received his commission as an Army officer in World War II. ,Over the years, at a moments notice, she transplanted her family wherever the military decreed, from Washington D. C. to San Francisco, CA to Leavenworth, Kansas, making a home for her husband and children and providing leadership and support to other military spouses in their many postings.
She was deeply involved with the Methodist faith and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Churches in Bradenton and Tallahassee, Florida, and Kirkwood United Methodist Church in Georgia. When John retired from the Army as a Colonel in 1963, he accepted an executive position with Honeywell, and she continued using her talents as a homemaker and hostess wherever they lived. John pre-deceased her in 1983.
She instilled strong values such as seeing the goodness in all people and helping others in her children. She and John found great joy in their grandchildren, and after his death, she with her great-grandchildren. Although they rarely agreed on anything, Laurie and her twin sister Rose maintained a remarkable and loving relationship until Rose's death on their 100th birthday in July, 2012.
Laurie will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
There will be a memorial service for Laurie in The Francis Chapel, at Westminster Oaks, at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
