She is survived by her husband Richard "Rick" Smith.
Kathy was born in Maryville, Tennessee and came to Tallahassee, Florida at the age of 3. She grew up as a strong Southern Baptist and has been a member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church since she was 10 years old and for 35 years since, she has been a dedicated member of the congregation. She met her husband at the age of 16 and they dated for 4 years before they finally decided to be married at the Bradfordville Chapel on August 24, 1984. She began working for the state shortly after and has served thereafter for nearly 25 years, most recently at the Department of Agriculture Division of Food Safety. During this time she gave birth to three children who she raised with her husband Rick. She developed Breast Cancer in 2005 and defeated this disease but was diagnosed with acute myleiod luekemia in June 2010, a rare side effect of treatment for Breast Cancer. In an effort to cure the leukemia, she received a bone marrow transplant at Shands Medical Center in Gainesville, FL on Nov. 5, 2010. Her battle has been an inspiration to everyone around her and she will forever be remembered for her sensitive soul and strong faith in the Lord.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, her daughters Robyn Smith and Rachel Smith, as well as her son George "Kenny" Smith, her mother Dorothy Campbell, brothers Phil Campbell and Larry Campbell, sister-in-laws Janet Campbell and Debbie Campbell respectively, and uncle Bob Metts.
She is predeceased by her father George Campbell and brother Daniel A. Campbell.
Her service will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Thomasville Road Baptist Church with burial to follow in Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the service hour in church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thomasville Road Baptist Church, 3131 Thomasville Rd. Tallahassee, FL 32308
