Jack Richard “Rick” Robinson, 84, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully with family at his side on October 1, 2016 at Big Bend House in Tallahassee. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sylvia, in December of 2011. He is survived by his two sons; Eric, and his wife Lori, of Jacksonville, FL, and Trent, and his wife Cybill, of Tallahassee, Fl. He also leaves behind five loving grandchildren: Logan, Kylie, Braden, Sarah and Dorothy, as well as two great grandchildren, Joseph and Emily.
Rick was born on July 4, 1932 in Valdese, North Carolina. He was the 7th of 10 children born to Jeff and Flossie Robinson. He was an Army veteran and a proud “Tarheel”, having graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Rick served as Assistant Personnel Director at the University of Florida for five years before being hired as Personnel Director of Florida State University in 1971. He served in that position faithfully until his retirement in December 1994. While at FSU, and for years after his retirement, Rick was an avid supporter of FSU athletics including football, baseball, and basketball, as well as women’s volleyball, softball and soccer. He enjoyed traveling with his family to numerous FSU football games over the years, and passed that passion down to his sons and grandchildren Logan and Kylie. He was also a devoted and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee for over 40 years.
Rick was quite competitive with his boys, and we have many fond memories of trying to beat him in bowling, horseshoes, and Bocce. His greatest athletic activity and love, however, was tennis. For over 30 years he could be found several times a week at various tennis courts throughout Tallahassee, and on those courts he forged many dear friendships.
His greatest legacy he leaves behind is that of a loving husband, father and grandfather.
His family was the most important thing to him in his life, and he was the greatest example of what a husband and father should be. Although his family and friends all share great sorrow in his passing, we find peace and comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved Sylvia in Heaven.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 4pm at Culley’s MeadowWood 700 Timberlane Road Tallahassee.
