Jeff was born April 21, 1947 in Trenton, NJ to June and Foster Wright Sr. The family moved to Miami, FL in 1951 and then to Fort Pierce, FL in 1961.
Jeff spent his teenage years living on South Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce. The island was a wild, swampy paradise back then. He, along with his brother Foster and sister Kathy, quickly made friends and were accepted into the South Beach kid community, leaving them with many stories to tell about their pranks and adventures. Jeff took full advantage of the opportunities on the island. He fished, drove dune buggies, spent time shooting at targets, and enjoyed the beach. His first job was as a lifeguard on South Beach.
In high school, he and some friends formed a local band called “The Sand Trippers”, where Jeff played bass guitar. They played private parties and events. During this time the band entered a “Battle of the Bands” competition and won! He was a handsome, rock-and-roll playing lifeguard in 1960s Florida…not bad!
Jeff joined the St. Lucie County Fire Department when he was twenty-one and began a fulfilling career where he would eventually retire as a Fire Captain. Jeff found a fraternity among the men (and eventually) women of the fire department that would last his entire life. He had many fond memories of his time in the fire department.
He had many hobbies throughout his life. Jeff had a love for the ocean, and almost always owned a boat. He loved playing folk music on his Spanish guitar. Later in life he discovered motorcycles and eventually made a cross-country trip to the Grand Canyon and back. His family roots were in Scotland, and he made many pilgrimages there with friends, family, and sometimes alone to soak up the local Celtic folk-music scene. Jeff fell in love with the Scottish people, landscapes, and music.
Jeff had a deep love for his family and especially his grandchildren. He moved to Tallahassee, FL in the last years of his life so he could be closer to his son and family. Jeff loved eating raw oysters at the local dive-bars and playing family jam-sessions on the back-porch of his son’s home. He was so proud that all his grandchildren were musicians and attended many of their concerts and recitals.
Jeff was predeceased by his father Foster V. Wright Sr. and his mother June Marie Wright.
Jeff is survived by his son Benjamin Wright, daughter-in-law Jennifer Bush Wright, grandchildren Cooper, Margot, and Joshua, step-grandson Devin Christy, brother Foster Wright Jr. and wife Robyn, sister Kathy Harris and husband John, nephews Chris Wright and Brian Wright, beloved cousin Joan Baur, former spouse Faye McCulley, former spouse Carol Siuda and her wonderful family, and his very dear friend Nancy Nevin.
A celebration of life will be held at the Ocean Village Island Restaurant. July 1st, 2023 from 11AM to 2PM. 2400 South Ocean Drive in Fort Pierce. Friends, family, and well-wishers are invited to attend. The eulogy and remarks will begin at 1130. This is a party to celebrate Jeff...please dress however you feel comfortable. A light buffet will be served.
