James Connell was born June 17, 1927, in Ridgefield, N. J. to the late Chrissie and James Connell. He passed away on November 23, 2018. He was 91 and residing in Tallahassee Florida. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Christie, and a brother, Robert E. Connell. He is survived by nieces Mary Christie Gill (Jim) (of Scotland), Karen (Jim) Biddy, Chris Griggs, and Robin Connell, and dear friends, Carolyn Winters, and son, Alex.
Jim graduated from Dwight Morrow High School and Rutgers University. He was employed by Newsweek Magazine in New York City for 39 years as Employee Benefits Manager. He retired in September, 1984. He moved to Sanibel Island, Florida from New Jersey in 1986 and then to Fort Myers, Florida in 1991. A “cradle” Episcopalian, Jim was always active in his church. He volunteered at his church in Fort Myers as Secretary/Treasurer and Administrator for 19 years. He has been a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Jim will be cremated by the National Cremation Society and his ashes will be interred at St. Luke’s in Fort Myers. A memorial service will be held on Dec. 8, 2018 at 10 am at St. Luke’s and burial will follow the service.
