He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Barbara Jean Nelson Barrett; three daughters, Sandra Brown of Washington, DC, Stephanie Barrett- Yokely of Atlanta, GA and Claire Barrett-Pope of Houston, TX; one son, James Rudolph Barrett, Jr. of Tallahassee, and eight grandchildren.
He was an elder at Trinity United Presbyterian Church where his funeral service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway.
Visitation and a memorial service, conducted by the Gamma Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., are scheduled for Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting a donation to Big Bend Hospice.
