Mr. Jacob Daniel Nash ("Dan" to his friends), age 82, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away at his home on November 3, 2011. He was born in Columbia, S.C. to Jacob D and Bessie Hursey Nash. He is characterized by his children as "an uncommon man…kind, fair, and loved". He married his high-school sweetheart, Vivian Thomas, in 1951. He and Vivian moved to Louisiana and he began a career with Schlumberger Oil Well Services that lasted until his retirement in 1987. During these years, his professional advancement took him and his family far and wide, enjoying work and life in Louisiana, Texas, California, Alaska, and Colorado. His professional resume always included a willingness to travel with "dress shoes or work boots, business attire or hard hat". Between 1987 and 1996, Dan served as manager of the Radioactive Materials Program for the Florida Department of Health.
Dan Nash was a devoted husband and father, an avid sportsman and fisherman, gardener, inventor, philosopher-teacher - especially to his children, world traveler, rock-collector, and solo adventurer.
