He was born in Wausau, Florida and was proud that his home town was named Possum Capital of the World. He was a 1960 graduate of Chipley High School and attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna. He was a long time resident of Tallahassee, Florida and an avid FSU fan. He retired after 42 years as a traffic engineer with the Florida Dept of Transportation where he made lifelong friends. He received several awards, merits and citations for his achievements during his tenure. He was a member of the State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. He participated on several Florida DOT sports teams such as bowling, golf and softball. He coached youth football and saw some of his kids move on to become collegiate athletes. He never missed the antique car shows with his retired buddies and fishing with his brother. He had a great love of gospel music, animals, his friends and family. He attended John Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hughie and Stella Miller (Wausau, Fl); brother Billy Gene and sister in-law,Ouida Miller (Tallahassee,Fl); brothers, Bobby Miller and Ricky Miller (Wausau, Fl).
He is survived by his loving wife, Sonja. His dear and beloved sister, MaryNell Wood and husband Foley (Ft. Walton Beach, Fl); step-mother,Mary A. Miller (Chipley, Fl); brother, James Miller (Lynn Haven, Fl); sister-in-law, Martha Miller (Wausau,Fl). Several nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews; cousins and in-laws. He is also survived by his faithful canine companions, (The Girls) “Gidget”, “Muffin” and “Pretty Girl”.
The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm, followed by a service at 3:00 pm, Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Fl. 32312.
