Dr. Jack Watt MacDonald, Sr., 81, an incredibly loving family man and dedicated physician, was received by his lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on October 21, 2014. Born in Orlando FL on September 17, 1933, to the late Mary Susan Morgan and Thomas Cook MacDonald, Jack grew up in Tampa and became president of his senior class at Plant High School and captain of its football team.
Following graduation from high school, and three years of pre-med at the University of FL, Jack was accepted to Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and then served our country in the U.S. Air Force. Moving to Tallahassee in 1966, he joined the Internal Medical Associates of Doctors Ira “Bud” Harrison and Orson Smith. In 1976, with the advent of chemotherapy, he began, and formed, Hematology-Oncology Associates with Doctors Brian Sheedy and Jim Mabry. Among his medical accomplishments Dr. MacDonald pioneered oncology to our area; from Atlanta to Pensacola and Gainesville. Later he would serve as vice president and medical director of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. First, and foremost, above all medical achievements, Dr. MacDonald would strive to serve his patients with a genuine care and concern. Jack’s love for Florida Gator football, Atlanta Braves baseball and continuous study of history was preceded only by his love for family and country.
