Dr. Herbert Connester Beacham

He was a native of Tampa, Florida and a permanent resident of Tallahassee, Florida since 1957. He was employed at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, and retired on December 31, 2001, after 42½ years as a vocational teacher educator.

Dr. Beacham received his elementary and secondary education in the public schools of Hillsborough County (Tampa) Florida. He received the Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Florida A&M University and the Doctor of Education degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also served 3½ years on active military duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Army, and he was honorably discharged after completing the remainder of his 8-year military commitment in the Inactive Reserve status.

Dr. Beacham was a member of numerous local, state, regional, and national professional organizations and held many leadership positions in them. He received numerous honors, and awards for his active participation, leadership, research, and literary contributions to professional publications. Prior to his retirement at Florida A&M University, he was awarded the honorary title, Professor Emeritus.

He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Sylvia Williams Beacham; daughter, Sylvia L. Beacham; two sons, Herbert C. Beacham, II and Gregory A. Beacham; two sisters, Dorothy E. Beacham and Patricia G. Beacham (Tampa, Florida); granddaughter, LaToya Beacham; and two grandsons, Gregory Beacham and Craig Beacham. Others are nieces, Nesby Grant (Jupiter, FL), Sylisa Chester, and Kisha Quinn, (Tampa, FL); two nephews, Rufus Beacham, Jr., (Tampa, FL)

and Wendell O. Findley (Pomona, CA); and a host of cousins.

In keeping with Dr. Beacham’s wishes, a private family memorial is being planned
