Helen Abdelnour West passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on April 13, 2024. Known affectionately as Fave, Helen made us laugh and loved us fiercely. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Tony and Della Abdelnour, 89 years ago. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Jacksonville where she grew up, started a family, and worked in the judicial system. In 1990 she moved to Tallahassee to serve as a Judicial Assistant in the Florida Supreme Court. Helen was a bright light that touched many lives and will be remembered for her vibrant humor and lovable sassiness. She enjoyed dancing to rock’n’roll, reading books, watching movies, and most importantly spending time with friends and family. Helen is preceded in death by her siblings Louie, Basil, Gladys, and Bill and is survived by her son Chris (Sally), daughter Valerie, and grandchildren Krista, Adam, and Aidan. Helen’s farewell message to you, “I lived, I loved, I laughed, and I cried—all because of you. But now it's time to say goodbye, I'm on my way to Timbuktu.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 4, 11:30 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 211 N Monroe Street in Tallahassee, followed by a Going Away Party in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, Helen asked that you might support one of her favorite causes: the Menstrual Equity Coalition that ensures all women have access to menstrual hygiene products (https://theoasiscenter.net/3121-2) or the Public Broadcasting Service that provides programs to inform, educate, and entertain (https://wfsu.org/support/honor-memorial-giving).
