Gillun Craven Davis, Jr. was born in Cairo, Georgia on April 10, 1937. Raised in Miami, Florida, he graduated from Jackson High School. He later served in the United States Coast Guard. Gillun was a firefighter in Coral Gables, Florida. On July 1, 1960 Gillun married Bonnie Brinson Davis and they were married for forty-eight years. In 1971, he founded Davis Safe and Lock incorporated, in Tallahassee, still in operation today. He was a longtime member of Seminole Baptist Church where he served faithly as a deacon and in many other capacities. He raised his family in Tallahassee where he lived the rest of his life.
After the loss of Bonnie, Gillun met a fellow member of Seminole Baptist and he married Barbara Bishop in 2012. He enjoyed traveling to the mountains and spending time with family. While Gillun was always a hard worker, he also had a sense of humor and inundated everyone with stories and “dad” jokes.
Gillun was preceded in death by his parents Gillun and Lillie Davis, first wife Bonnie, older son, Gillun C. Davis III, his granddaughter, Victoria Josephine Davis, sister-in-law, Linda Brinson Prince, and brother-in-law Raul Gamiotea. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Barbara Davis, and his siblings: Ed and Diane Davis, Neal and Nancy Davis, and Kathey Gamiotea, his daughter-in-law, Pamela Davis and also his children: Danny (Rhonda) Davis, David (Shannon) Davis, April (Ben) Butler; grandchildren: Jonathan Davis, Stephanie (Jordan) Hopkins, Benjamin (Sharon) Davis, Jordan Davis, Samantha (Mark) Hinchliffe, Stephen Davis, and Hannah Butler; great-grandchildren Conner Davis, Tucker Davis, Raylan Davis, and Hayden Hopkins.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Culley’s Funeral Home on Timberlane Road. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Seminole Baptist Church, 3033 Mission Road with graveside at Culley’s, Timberlane Rd., immediately after. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seminole Baptist Church.
