

George was born February 18th, 1930, in Huntington, West Virginia. He graduated from Huntington High School and Marshall University. Following college, he was drafted by the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Boot Camp in January 1952 and served his two years at Parris Island in the Information Office.
His love for writing led him to newspaper reporting and a career with the Associated Press in North Carolina and West Virginia. He moved to Tallahassee in 1966 as Capital Correspondent for Today newspaper. From 1970-1973, he served as Executive Director for the Florida Democratic Party. In 1973 he became Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs in the Public Service Commission where he remained until retirement in 1996.
He loved spending time with his family and his beloved Virginia and the Newman family. He kept abreast of current events with a keen eye on politics and social justice. He enjoyed watching Marshall and Florida State sports, gardening, reading spy thrillers and traveling, especially to Sanibel Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ralis Edwards Hanna. He is survived by his three children, Mary Hanna Dysart (Jim), Grace Hanna Chambers (Earl), and Matthew George Hanna. Seven grandchildren, Kelli Chambers Causseaux (Marty), Paul Dysart (Leslie Ann), Katie Dysart Herdliska (Andy), Philip Dysart (Allison), Collin Chambers (Buffi), Cole Chambers and Avery Hanna. Seven great grandchildren. The Newman family, Virginia, Peter, Lori, Brett, Harumi and Gerry. So many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins that he adored.
A memorial service will be held October 12, 2023, at 11:00 am at Culley’s Funeral Home on Timberlane Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee.
