Frederick Long Innes, 79, retired Plant Manager with General Dynamics, a resident of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on Thursday, May 11th 2017 after a short illness. Fred was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Frederick A. and Ruth (Raschke) Innes on October 19th 1937. He was a Boy Scout, Order of the Arrow and became a Sea Scout, which led him to join the US Navy and serve 8 years. After the US Navy, he attended Southern Illinois University on the GI Bill and received a Bachelors in Business Administration. While working with McDonald Douglas, as a Contract Negotiator, he was directly involved in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs. He joined Olin Corporation, working at the Baraboo Munitions Depot in Wisconsin. In 1976, he was promoted to the St. Marks Powder Operations and moved to Tallahassee.
He married the love of his life, Betty Koppe on January 1st 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri. He enjoyed riflery, golfing, fishing, wood working, but his most favorite memories were shared at the cabin in Wisconsin with friends and family. He was known as the Laird of Innesfree and a member of the Scottish Clan society. He loved life in all its splendor, and was known by many as “Smiling Fred”.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty, and their three children, daughter, Laura (Brian) Jennings, daughter, Cyndee (David) Odom-Johnson, son, Fred (Stacy) Innes, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his sister, Ruth Ahrens, numerous nieces and nephews, many friends, and the Cabin people. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, May 17th at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, FL starting at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Veterans of Foreign Wars, www.vfw.org, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
