Franklin Dewey Phillips, known as Dewey or Poppy to those who knew him passed away peacefully on October 8, 2023, at the age of 85 in Tallahassee, Florida. Born on September 2, 1938, in Rock Bluff, Florida, Dewey was a loving husband, father, and faithful servant of the Lord and Savior. His caring and compassionate nature were unmatched, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Dewey is survived by daughter Kimberly (Roger) Phenix; son Michael (Lauren) Phillips; grandchildren Ryan (Leigh) Phenix, Shelby Phenix (Marcus Arthur); and great-grandchildren Greyson and Bennett Phenix. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Jennie Gardner Phillips; his wife of 57 years Elizabeth Phillips; brother Elrie Phillips; and sister Geraldine Hosey.
Dewey graduated from Greensboro High School before dedicating his life to serving his country. He honorably served in the Army from 1960 to 1966, demonstrating his unwavering commitment and dedication to his country.
Following his military service, Dewey became a lifelong employee of the State of Florida, where he made valuable contributions to his community. He was highly respected and admired by his colleagues and will be remembered for his dedication and hard work.
In his free time, Dewey pursued his passion for fishing and gardening. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. Dewey was also a landscape aficionado creating outdoor spaces that brought joy to his family and friends.
Dewey worshiped at Chirstian Life Fellowship, where he found spiritual guidance and strength. Services to honor and celebrate Dewey’s life will be held at Christian Life Fellowship, located at 3608 Centerville, Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 10:00-11:00am, followed by service at 11:00am. A burial with military honors will occur Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312. A reception to follow burial will occur Thursday, October 12, 2023, 3608 Centerville Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
Dewey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will be forever cherished by the hearts of his family and friends.
