He was born in Tom’s Creek, Virginia on December 9, 1935. He was a 1955 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and was proud of the fact that he was a cheerleader and a darn good one, for the football team. After high school, he served our country for 4 years in the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsay C. and Louise Gilman McConnell; brothers, Lindsay McConnell, Jr., Bob McConnell, Gene McConnell; sisters, Ruby Choate, Peggy Peak, and Lou Blankenbecler; a very special daughter-in-love, Linda McConnell, who referred to him as her “Fashion Guru”; his 2 best friends in the world, his dogs, Copper and Shyanne; and numerous other family members and friends who we know were there to welcome him at Heaven’s gate.
Frank’s legacy will live on through his wife; his sons: Timothy (Becky) McConnell, Scott McConnell, Matt (Sue) McConnell; a daughter, Nancy (Jamie) Hogsed; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five grand dogs.
What we know for sure is he loved us and we loved him. He was proud of us, just as we were of him. He played pool better than anyone we know. He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of his pool league buddies at Zingale’s. He used to joke that he never lost a game of pool, many challengers wagered against him, but Frank’s skill on the billiards table was unsurpassed. He was always good for a dirty joke and loved to tell his wild stories that we will dearly miss. Frank loved tinkering with things, and was a regular McGyver when it came to fixing things; all he needed was a stick of gum, a clothespin, and a shoestring. He was a longtime, optimistic Florida Lottery player; he rarely let a day go by without his scratch-off tickets. He will be remembered for his quick wit and infectious personality (not always a good “infectious” but always “infectious” nonetheless).
Following his wishes, there will not be a service, but well-wishers are encouraged to drink a Cuba-Libre or drink of your choice in his honor. He was never one for sentiment or religiosity, but he wanted you to know that if he owes you a drink, and if you can find him in Heaven, he will gladly allow you to buy him one.
In his memory, Frank would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness in his name.
Rest in Peace.
His crazy stories will continue to be shared by all who knew him.
He will live on in our hearts forever.
