Evelyn Bailey Toney

Evelyn married Gunter Toney in 1944 and then accompanied him to several U.S. Naval stations. After moving to Tallahassee, Evelyn worked for the Florida State Legislature, and then as a legal secretary for her husband Gunter for 32 years. Evelyn enjoyed traveling within the US and Europe but her greatest joys in life were her family and church. She has been a member of East Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee since 1955, and a charter member of the Mary Lou Tindall Sunday School class. Evelyn and Gunter moved from Tallahassee to Jacksonville in 2004 to be closer to family.

Preceded in death by her son, David Toney, she is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, S. Gunter Toney; daughter, Susan Toney Highsmith (Bob); brothers, Fred Bailey (Ann) and Don Bailey (Bettie); grandchildren, Kirk Toney, Lisa Bedrosian (Danny), Dartanion Toney, Jennifer Highsmith and Robert Highsmith; great grandson, Damien Toney; along with many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, 7/28/12 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, 7/29/12 at East Hill Baptist Church, 912 Miccosukee Rd, Tallahassee, with Pastor Dan Sowell as Officiant, followed by interment at Tallahassee Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Toney’s name to East Hill Baptist Church (Tallahassee) or Heartland Hospice Services (Jacksonville).
