Emily was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on February 16, 1921 and passed on April 3, 2018. After the death of her mother in 1924, Emily moved to Tallahassee to live with her Uncle Tom & Aunt Lilly Chason. A graduate of Leon High School Class of 1939, she worked at the telephone company as a switchboard operator. During that time, she met J.D. Turvaville and they married in 1941. Later on, Emily worked part-time for Capital City Bank and retired after 19 years.
Emily is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Turvaville Jr., her parents Remus V. Griffin and Eddie McLeod Griffin, her sister, Dorothy Moore of Gainesville, FL, and brother Ben H. Griffin of Hawkinsville, GA. She is survived by sons, Jim (Debbie) Turvaville, Jerry (Kaye) Turvaville, and daughter, Ann Fuller. Also 4 grandchildren whom she dearly loved: Angie (James) Lang, Griff (Ryza) Turvaville, Christie (Jeff) Mundy, and Carrie (Jeremy) Tharpe, as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Daniel, Gabriel, Rodney, Lizzy, Wyatt and Kacie.
Emily was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee for 85 years; taught first and second grade Sunday School for many years and was a member of Faith Sunday School class and the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She was a homemaker and loved to entertain family for holidays and birthdays. Emily was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, friend, and neighbor and loved to serve others.
