Elsie was the daughter of Columbus Melvin Reinhardt and Bertha Agnes Sanders. She had a passion for writing and enjoyed participating in the writing club. Elsie attended business school and obtained her secretary/business finance certification in Crestview, FL. She worked in Civil Service at Eglin Airforce Base, where she met her husband, James Albert Harper. In 1946, they moved to Tallahassee, FL. They were faithful members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Burleigh Law Sunday School Class. She enjoyed life and spending time with her family. Elsie and James were very involved with their many nieces and nephews, whom she loved fiercely. After having children, she became a homemaker and participated in many volunteer opportunities, including the children’s ministries at St. Paul’s UMC. She enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger. Being a grandmother to Kendall Lee Crowson brought her the most joy and happiness.
Elsie is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, James, and her son-in-law, Randy Crowson. She is survived by her children: daughter, Robin Harper of Charlotte, NC; and son, Jodey Harper of Greer, SC; as well as her grandson, Kendall Lee Crowson; and granddaughter, Melanie Lynn Rehrig. Elsie was proud of being a mother figure to many, including her niece, Barbara Jean Stahr, and her nephew, Walter Earnest Harper II; along with their siblings. Her nephew, Hubert Morris, provided many hours of emotional support over the span of her life. Additionally, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the many caregivers who provided love and support to Elsie over the past six years.
