Buddy was born on October 27, 1937 to Norman and Clara (Burke) Johnson in Quincy, FL. He joined the Navy after graduating from Gadsden County High School He then worked at Central telephone company as a cable supervisor for 33 years before retiring in 1993. He briefly worked as a courier for LabCorp.
He was a loving father, stepfather and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends and watching football and Nascar races. He was an active member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. He served as a board member; teacher in Sunday school, children's church, college and career and finally, the senior men's class; bus driver and participated in the church maintenance and janitorial services. He could be found at every Saturday morning prayer meeting service, men's fellowship activity and visitation until health prevented him from attending.
He was a man who made friends wherever he went and knew no strangers. He was a friend that others could count on when needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tommy Johnson of Helena, AL and J.E. "Jay" Johnson of Altha, FL.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, LaVerne Johnson; children, Sharon (Bill) Neal, Lee (Deirdre) Minor and Renee Johnson; four grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren.
