Ellie Marie Sims, a vibrant and cherished 20-year-old Florida State University student was tragically taken from us on April 29, 2024. Born in Tallahassee, Florida on December 7, 2003, and raised in St. Augustine, Florida and Franklin, TN; Ellie was a beacon of light to all who knew her. She unapologetically lived her life as her authentic self. Ellie knew who she was and lived life with a brazen confidence that was admired by many.
Her cycle of life started with her birth on December 7, 2003, in Tallahassee where she was baptized at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. As a young girl, in St. Augustine, she loved baking, dancing, swimming, skateboarding, painting, and playing soccer. Even at a young age, she was described by many as an “old soul.” Ellie had a unique and mature perspective on things that her teachers (mostly) appreciated.
Ellie attended Page Middle School and Page High in Franklin, TN. During which, she was an active member of student government, the girl’s soccer team, and played center for the girls flag football team and played in the inaugural title game held at the Titans’ Nissan Stadium. She was 3-year student participant of Williamson County School District’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (EIC) running her own company, Sunbound, where she designed, created, and sold custom tie-dye bikinis.
An honors and AP student, and proud Florida girl through and through; she was accepted into Florida State University’s Honors College. Ellie’s adventurer spirit lead her to participate in the University’s study abroad program Spring semester 2023. Ellie studied at FSU’s Florence Campus and traveled around to six other countries when the semester ended. Her true love for adventure and travel could be seen in her frequent Tik-Toks as she sampled and critiqued the local cuisine (especially sweets) and embraced the culture. She loved every second and was living her best life!
Ellie was also a proud member of the Beta Eta Chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at FSU, being initiated in the fall of 2024. Many sisters fondly recall, “Her infectious smile, jamming out while meal prepping in the kitchenette and her positive presence that lit up every room.”
Ellie’s other activities include: volunteering with FSU CHAW, running in Cascades Park, frequenting the College Town GreenWise, and working at LUSH in The Green Hills Mall when home for breaks.
Ellie's passing has left a void in the hearts of many. She is survived by her loving parents, sister, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
