Where do I actually begin, 
And where will this all end;
Trying to put into mere words 
to portray a dearest friend.

Doris was a friend to many, 
Her personality, one of the best;
She gave willingly, a helping hand 
to me, to many, and all the rest.

As friends we laughed together, 
at times, we shed many tears;
Her love touched us all deeply - 
A valuable friend through the years.

We sang together in the choir, 
Sang duets once in awhile;
I'm sure everyone present there, 
Appreciated her beautiful smile.

A loving Mother and Grandmother, 
Doris was a delight to us all;
She tried to please just everyone, 
Without making too much of a fuss.

Doris is now singing with angels, 
Her voice so young and clear:
What a beautiful sight to behold- 
We know she's in Heaven, how dear.

Hand in hand with Jesus, 
She's walking the streets of gold;
Healed in both body and spirit, 
In a place she'll never grow old.

We'll miss our dear friend Doris, 
Miss her smile, her touch, her love; 
But she's safe with God in Heaven; 
That wonderful Home, just above.

Dowan (son): My mom loved to go out to eat and she never met a stranger. She was a strong lady and wouldn't let anything get her down. She had some hard times in her life, but she was always determined to overcome. She was the most resilient person I have ever known. I was blessed to call her Mom.

Words from Chapel Service:

Angela (granddaughter): Mamaw was 37 when I was born. I remember her being very "hip" for a grandma. You had to walk through beads hanging in the doorway to enter her bathroom and she always wore stylish clothes. She would often laugh about the time I told her not to walk too close to me at the mall when she had on some wild bell bottoms that were a bit "too stylin" for me. I LOVED spending the night with her as a kid. We would stay up late watching Johnny Carson while sitting in the bed eating popcorn and drinking CocaCola. I wasn't allowed to do any of that at home, so it was crazy exciting for me. We shared too many fun beach and pool days to count. I always loved hearing the old stories about her family. I enjoyed helping her empty coins out of the machines at the laundromat and going home to wrap them with her. It was thrilling to go in the Brown Cow and make my own ice cream cone with sprinkles. Her favorite was Peanut Butter Milkshakes and she'd make everyone try at least one! We had some good times when she lived with me, going out to eat, shopping or visiting family and friends. She and my daughter, Sara, were always to thrilled to get to go for a ride in the van to "anywhere". My mom and I were at her bedside when she went to be with Jesus. A few minutes later, there was a sudden boom of thunder, and the lightning began to strike.  It was as if the Heavens opened up and the rain began to pour. I found it ironic at the timing and at first, it made me sad. Then I thought maybe God was telling us she had entered with a boom. Then I couldn't help but wonder, if perhaps she had just found out they didn't have a JohnBoys in Heaven!  :)   I know she is enjoying walking again, seeing and hearing all the amazing sights and sounds in Heaven. I'm so glad I KNOW Heaven Is For Real and I will see my Mamaw again one day.

Beverlyn (daughter): My mom was my best friend and like a sister to me. She was always calling to check on me and make sure I was alright. I am so glad I was able to be with her the final weeks of her life here on Earth. She told me stories of when she fell out of a tree as a little girl and when she ran away from home and took her sister Unive with her. As we were sitting there listening to Jimmy Swaggert, which was her favorite, and the Gaither Vocal Band, the song "Going Home" came on. Mom got a beautiful smile on her face and she had a gleam in her eye as she looked at me and started squeezing my hand. I'm so glad she is no longer suffering, but I cannot wait to see her again one day. I will miss my mom, but I know she is in Gods care now.

Jimmy (grandson in-law): Mamaw was NOT a home body. She always wanted to be out doing something! I would describe her as adventurous. She was very loving and we shared a love for chocolate candy bars.

Travis (grandson): I loved going back to Mamaws' house after a day at the beach. She was always so happy to see us and she would love and hug on us boys. She would always have a home cooked meal waiting on us, like a big pot of beans and cornbread for us to chow down on. You just always KNEW that Mamaw loved you.
