He was 85 years old. Throughout his long life, he lived in Florida, Alabama, Virginia, Maryland, and Georgia. A graduate of St. Leo’s, he then attended Auburn University, taking a break when drafted into the Army during the Berlin Wall Crisis. A tour of duty at Fort Rucker gave him a chance to meet his future bride. He returned to Auburn, graduated, married, and commenced a career in radio. A career in media relations saw him serve in various public capacities including the Attorney General’s Office in Tallahassee and as a senior official in the Reagan Administration with the Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. Later, he helped gain codification of close captioning for television before turning his considerable energies to establishing Thieme Creative Media.
Away from his work, Mr. Thieme loved spending time afloat with his wife, photography, singing and listening to music, and performing on stage. He was equally fond of practical jokes and terrible puns. He allowed dogs for the sake of his children, and tolerated cats out of an abundance of love for his wife personally, he eschewed fur on four legs and preferred to fish.
Funeral arrangements are being made by his family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated later, with interment to follow in Tallahassee Veterans’ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Athletics at Holy Trinity Catholic School, Tallahassee, Florida at https://www.trinityknights.org/domain/191 .
