Donald A. Meeks

long battle with cancer. Donald, known as Don, was born to Reuben and Ruby Meeks on December 21,

1939 in Jacksonville, Florida, the second of three sons. Don is survived by his wife, Linda, three children,

Cindy Meeks, David Meeks and Donna Hays (Matthew). He is also survived by his four grandsons,

Christian, Hansen, Micah and Isaac Hays, his brother, Richard Meeks (Doris) and several cousins, nieces

and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert, and his parents, Reuben and Ruby.

After graduating high school, he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in Rantoul, Illinois

at Chanute Air Force Base, where he played trumpet in the band, as well as working in communications.

While he was stationed in Rantoul, he met his wife-to-be, Linda, while attending church and later they

were married, in 1964. After leaving the Air Force, Don and Linda moved to Hialeah, Florida and

attended Miami Dade Junior College, where Don majored in computer programming. They then moved to

Tallahassee in 1969. He continued his education at Florida State University, obtaining his bachelor’s

degree. He worked as a computer systems analyst at FSU for many years until he retired in 2004.

Don’s hobbies included playing the trumpet, traveling, running and model railroads. He

was a part of two bands, the Capital City Community Band and the Capital City Jazz Band, one of which

he and Linda had been apart of for over 50 years. He and his wife owned an RV and loved traveling all

over the United States with their children. He traveled overseas on four mission trips to Bulgaria and

Kenya between 2004 and 2008. In his younger years, he enjoyed running and regularly ran 5K, 10K races and also a marathon. In more recent years, he joined a local model railroad club and had his own model railroad set in his house.

A public visitation for Donald will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida. A funeral service with military honors will occur Friday, May 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Capital City Christian Church, 6115 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL. A burial immediately following the service will occur Friday, May 12, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida.
