Mrs. Chancy graduated from Florida State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education, and later earned her Master of Arts in English at Saint Bonaventure University in New York. Ever a compassionate and dedicated English teacher, she inspired students at Leon High School for 20 of her 35 years in the classroom. She previously taught at James S. Rickards High School from 1988 to 1992 and from 1995 to 1998. She also taught at St. Bonaventure University from 1986-87.
Wherever Diane went, accolades were quick to follow, and throughout her career Mrs. Chancy received several Teacher of the Year awards and professional commendations celebrating her dynamic classroom presence and extraordinary commitment to her students’ success. No beloved educator, known to many as “ Chancy ”, was more enthusiastic and talented in her multi-disciplinary approach to teaching historical content and the English lexicon, than Diane.
Teaching was her life. She aimed to restore her student’s belief in education, communication, and trusted friendships. She had many treasured students that were as devoted to her, as she was to them. Diane was smart, devout, perceptive, and an all-around compassionate woman. She loved to swim, garden, study and care for creatures great and small.
Mrs. Chancy is survived and missed by her husband of 31 years, John Charles Chancy, also of Tallahassee, her son Tanner J. Chancy of Miami, her sister Laurie Price Edwards, brother-in-law Micheal A. Edwards, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Claude W. Price and Carole G. Price and by her brother Scott E. Price.
Diane’s family and friends would like to thank Leon County EMTs and the Tallahassee Police Department for doing all they could. Diane’s legacy will carry on forever, as she chose to live a life filled with meaningful acts of love and service.
