She was born in Akron, Ohio to William F. and Katharyn S. Billingsley in December 1937. She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in Ohio in June 1955. After high school, she attended college and received her B.A. in History and her M.A. in Library Sciences from Kent State Univ ersity in 1960 and 1961. She was a Librarian in the New York Public Library System intermittently between 1961 and 1979. In 1979, she moved along with her daughters to Tallahassee, FL. She worked at the Florida State University Library for 25 years where she became Head of Monograph Cataloging. She was active in several professional and community organizations including American Library Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and Parents without Partners. She was an avid reader along with other hobbies such as needlepoint, playing bridge and getting together with lifelong friends. She was a wonderful mother to her two surviving daughters, Susannah and Carrie. She was a second mom to many of her daughters' friends.
Memorial service for Debbie will be on Saturday, October 30th at 11:00am at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, FL. Please donate to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research www.stopsarcoidosis.org.
