Deborah Gallay, 66, died Tuesday (7/7) after an on-and-off nine-year battle with cancer. A driving force in Debi’s life was a deep interest in Florida education policy and budget issues. She spent a long career in state government, working in the Governor’s Office as education policy coordinator and for the Florida Board of Regents as Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budgeting. She recently retired as Associate Vice President of Governmental Relations for Florida International University.
Debi is survived by her husband David Beggs; children: Colin Beggs and Katherine Beggs; niece: Jamie Lowstetter and nephew: Michael Lowstetter; sisters: Chris Mason and Pam Gallay, and brothers: Jim Gallay and Ian Gallay.
The family will receive friends at Culley’s MeadowWood Capital Room Sunday (7/12) from 3 until 5 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend, 4446 Entrepot Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32310, (http://www.fightinghunger.org/) in her memory.
