David John Murphy (Dave), 68, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2016 after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born March 13, 1948 in Bethesda, Ohio, son of the late Richard and Jean Murphy. He moved to Florida as an infant and grew up in Orlando. Dave graduated from Edgewater High School and Florida Technological University (now the University of Central Florida). In 1975 he moved to Tallahassee, where he worked for the State Board of Regents. In 1979 Dave went to work for Florida State University where he retired in 2010, after 31 years.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Nancy; their two wonderful sons, Matthew and Kevin (Cristin); and one beautiful grandson, Nolan. He is also survived by one brother, Rick (Sara); two sisters LuAnne Preston (Bill) and Susan Hill (Rob); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dave and Nancy enjoyed traveling, taking several trips together to Europe and many places around the country with their special friends Niki and John Joyce. Dave loved Florida State football and enjoyed being outdoors. His happiest moments were those spent with his family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Elder Day Stay, Centre Pointe Health and Rehabilitation, and Big Bend Hospice for the loving care provided to our beloved husband and father.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Culley’s Meadow Wood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
