Daisy Mae Hawkins West, 92, of Crawfordville, Florida died on Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was born on June 8, 1929 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania to Charles W. Hawkins and Ida Lilly Hawkins. At a young age, her family moved to Harford County, Maryland. Daisy’s father died when she was young, and her mother remarried, creating a large blended family with many siblings. In 1947, she married Bradley West and they had two children, Doug and Don. In December of 1979, Daisy and Bradley moved from Harford County to Wakulla County, Florida. They were married for 38 years until Bradley’s passing in 1985.
Daisy was a homemaker for most of her life but spent years working part-time for the Older American Program for the U.S. Forest Service, Apalachicola National Forest. She loved spending time outdoors and being in her yard. She was a Christian who attended various churches throughout her life.
She is survived by her grandchildren Kevin West and Rachel West of Tallahassee, FL. Daughter- in-law Peggy West of Tallahassee, FL. Sisters; Sarah Cowan (Woody) of Pasadena, Maryland, Vera Elliott of Titusville, FL and her brother, Clarence Hawkins (Betty) of Havre de Grace, Maryland. Numerous nieces and nephews mostly in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
She was predeceased by her parents, many siblings, her husband Bradley, and both of her children, Don and Doug.
The family would like to give thanks to the hospital staff at Capital Regional Medical Center, Big Bend Hospice, Daisy’s friends and neighbors who visited and spent time with her. Finally, the family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Lynn Barfield of Crawfordville, FL for helping look after Daisy in the latter part of her life. Thank you Lynn, for all that you did. We could not have done it without you.
No formal funeral service is planned. A small family gathering in her memory will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Big Bend Hospice.
