Charlie “Chuck” Husbands died peacefully at his home in Lloyd, Florida on Friday morning, April 22, 2016 at the age of 73. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor cooking. He fought and beat leukemia two years ago but lost his battle to pancreatic cancer.
Chuck was born in Oak Grove, Louisiana on April 22, 1943. He joined the Navy and served on the USS Enterprise and in Vietnam (1961-65). He lived in Daytona Beach and Indiantown, Florida before moving to Tallahassee in 1973. He worked as a mechanic, draftsmen, pipe fitter, cabinet-maker and framing carpenter before retiring in 2005. Some of his volunteer work included: Cub Scouts, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, Lloyd Volunteer Fire Department and outdoor cooking for some charities as well as friends and family.
Chuck is predeceased by his parents, Ben and Hazel Husbands and his brother Bill “Pap” Husbands. Survivors include: his wife of 42 years, Linda Harvey Husbands; four sons, Tony Husbands of Yazoo City, MS, Bill Husbands (Angel) of Tallahassee, FL, David Husbands (Michelle) of Lacey, WA and Nick Husbands (Sommer) of Oxford, MS; six granddaughters, Tricia Claire Quinsey of Columbus, GA, Cearra and Morgan Husbands of Tallahassee, FL, Mackenzie Shearon, Rylie Husbands, and Taylin Husbands of Lacey, WA. He has three brothers, Walter Husbands (Betty) of Scottsdale, AZ, Frank Husbands of Arkadelphia, AR, Floyd Husbands (Candy) of Sparkman, AR and four sisters, Ann Moore (James) of Atlanta, TX, Janice Slater (JD) of Kansas City, MO, Juanita Guthrie (Bobby) of Mason, TN and Sheila Cedatol of Hamburg, AR, as well as many nieces and nephews, a loving extended family and many dear friends.
