Carolyn Clark Wagner, 89, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Tallahassee, Florida, at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House. Carolyn was born on December 10, 1928 in Moultrie, Georgia. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother (affectionately called “Nina”), and friend to many.
Upon graduation from Moultrie High School in 1946, Carolyn attended Norman Junior College in Norman Park, Georgia where she received her Associates degree. After graduation, she returned to Moultrie and taught 3rd grade at Culbertson Elementary School.
In 1950, she moved to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University (FSU) where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Florida teaching certificate. While attending FSU, a family friend introduced her to Thomas. After several years of courtship, they married on June 12, 1954.
Upon graduation from FSU, Carolyn continued her teaching career at Leonard Wesson Elementary School in Tallahassee, during which time she went back to school at night to obtain her Master’s Degree. She taught many elementary school students and always strived to positively influence their lives. Carolyn always enjoyed seeing her students after they had begun their careers and seeing them become successful in whatever path they followed. After teaching for 34 years, she retired in 1989. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, spoiling her grandsons, and her hobbies.
Carolyn was an excellent seamstress (she even made her wedding gown), enjoyed needlework, cooking, canning fruits and vegetables, and gardening. She was a Golden Member of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee where she enjoyed her Early Risers Sunday School class.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Vinson Clark and Gladys Herndon Clark; her brother, Ralph Turner Clark; and husband of almost 58 years, Thomas J. Wagner. She is survived by her son, Thomas C. Wagner; daughter, Jane W. Broyles (Ed); and grandsons, Dylan and Trevor Broyles, all of Tallahassee.
