Carol J. Morland Mead, 80 years of age, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024 at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare's hospice facility in Tallahassee, Florida. She had suffered with progressive dementia for a long period of time.
Carol was born in Margarita, Canal Zone on October 16, 1944 to Gilbert and Virginia Morland. She was the fifth of six children along with sisters, Sunny, Sally, and Mary, and brothers, Robin and Peter. She spent her youth with her family growing up in Brazos Heights, Canal Zone, where her father, who worked in the shipping industry, had a family home.
She graduated from Cristobal High School in 1962, marrying Larry Corrigan and they became parents of sons, Gilbert and David. They were later divorced and in 1972 she married Burt Mead, celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary on July 21, 2024. Carol and Burt were both employed by the Panama Canal organization. Carol enjoyed many years working in the Canal's Graphic Branch and completed her Canal employment as Administrative Assistant in the Office of Public Affairs. She retired on March 3, 1995 with 18+ years of Panama Canal service.
She and Burt then moved to Tallahassee, Florida and built a new home in the Greens of Killearn sub-division, moving in on Christmas day of 1997. Carol loved getting together with Canal Zone friends and other new friends made in the Tallahassee area. Cruising and timeshare travels were other activities that she thoroughly enjoyed. Traveling to visit family was also one of her special enjoyments. And, of course, shopping was a special treat for Carol; lots of looking and not so much purchasing. She did, however, purchase through the years a small collection of Sabine Esche ceramic dolls which she proudly displayed throughout their home. Her small collection of Panamanian baskets were also located about the house.
Carol was a loving, sweet and wonderful lady and will be missed by all of her family and friends. She so much enjoyed the times she could spend with her family and grandchildren.
Carol was predeceased by her father, Gilbert; mother, Virginia; son, Gilbert Corrigan; three sisters, Sunny Mizrachi, Sally Williams and Mary Coffey; and brother-in-law, Tom Williams.
She is survived by her husband, Burt; son, David Corrigan (Marcy), Clearwater, Florida; daughter-in-law, Cher Corrigan, Overland Park, Kansas; brothers, Robin and Peter Morland, Republic of Panama; step-son, Rick Mead (Maria), Tallahassee, Florida; step-son, Keith Mead (Cindy), Tallahassee, Florida; brother-in-law, Henry Mizrachi, Tallahassee, Florida; sister-in-law, Ceci Mead, Republic of Panama; seven grandchildren, Darien Corrigan, Gilbert Corrigan, Jr., Andrew Corrigan, Brianna Mead, Dakota Mead, Chase Mead (Megan), and Kelsey Mead Gale (C.J.); and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held for our beloved Carol by her family in January or February of 2025. Details regarding the date, time and location will be shared with family and friends once arrangements are finalized.
