Bronnie D. Neel Wiegman, 99, passed away at Big Ben Hospice in Tallahassee, FL on April 11. Although born in Pelham, GA, she lived her early life in Sanford, FL where she was an athletic standout. After settling in Tallahassee in 1933, she married William Perry Neel in 1935 where she resided for the rest of her life. She worked the Department of Corrections as Chief Clerk until her retirement in 1968. She became an active resident of Westminster Oaks in 2002 until her death. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 26 at The Macguire Center, Westminster Oaks.
A world traveler and avid bridge player, Bronnie was honored by The Tallahassee Duplicate Bridge Club as the “oldest living member of the original club” in 1995 and became the first member to become a Gold Life Master.
She enthusiastically loved family and friends and took time for the enjoyment of their company. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Fun-loving and free-spirited, Bronnie’s hallmarks were optimism, good-natured competiveness, independence and an uncommon zest for life.
She was pre-deceased by husbands William Perry Neel in 1958 and Alvin John Wiegman in 1985, granddaughter Jane Anne Duncan, and sister Pearl Duggar Bates. She is survived by her children William Charles Neel (Sandra) of Tallahassee and Peggy Neel Duncan (Patrick) of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren Brian William Neel (Kay), Susan Elizabeth Nuss (Bruce), Charles Bricey Neel, Kara Kendal Neel,Mary Patricia Duncan (Bill Turner); nine great- grandchildren and nephew Larry Jon Bates (Sharon) of Winter Haven, FL.
