After high school graduation in 1970, Bob attended the University of Alabama and graduated with an Accounting degree in 1974. Following graduation, he joined the McDaniel & Associates firm in Dothan and began his accounting career. His journey brought him to Tallahassee, Florida, in 1984 where he began working for James Moore & Company. During the span of his 30-year career, Bob started the Strategic Nonprofit Alliance Partnership, Inc. (SNAP) and lead the non-profit division for the firm. He pioneered the audit practice in Tallahassee and held CPA licensure in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. As a CPA, he held state and nationwide memberships with the FICPA and AICPA and served on the board of The United Partners for Human Services. His passion and love for his career was evident in the way he devoted his time to mentor and serve those in his influence.
He was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend and love of his life, Sallie Carol Jones, on December 16, 1978. Together, Bob and Sallie raised their three children: Wesley “Wes”, Tiffany, and Bethany. His steadfast devotion to his family and friends was evident in the way he lived his life. He faithfully cheered on his loved ones from behind the television cameras, football sidelines, dance auditoriums, and church congregations. He loved Alabama football, fishing with his sons-in-law, taking trips with Sallie, and spending time with his grandkids. He embodied servanthood in the way he selflessly supported his family, friends, and church community. He was generous, compassionate, and wise; a true pillar of strength and faith to all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Sallie Carol Powell, daughters Bethany (Chris) Lee and Tiffany (Chris) Williamson, his six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Brice, Bear, Scotlyn, Sallie Catherine, and Olivia; his parents Robert and Elene, brother Charlie, mother-in-law Zelda Jones, brother-in-law Wesley (Marsha) Jones, sister-in-law Juliene Lancto, and many nieces, nephews, and faithful friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Wes Powell.
