Betty Renee’ Phillips, 65, passed away August 21, 2015 in Tallahassee, FL. Born in Jacksonville, FL on October 6, 1949, she grew up on Jacksonville’s west side (West Metro Jax). In her teen years she attended shows and danced to early versions of the bands Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Bros at the Teen Center in Woodstock Park. She earned an A.S. Degree then promptly went on to work for the State of Florida where she retired from the Florida Lottery in 2012. She loved listening to music of Eric Clapton, B.B. King, and a variety of traditional authentic blues and contemporary country artists; spent many hours tending her garden; many weekends with her husband on Dickerson Bay in Panacea at their fishing spot on Hungry Point; mornings she was active at the gym and afternoons she watched her favorite Soap Operas and The Andy Griffith Show.
Renee’ as she was known by family and friends, is survived by her husband Donald Fredrick Phillips; her two daughters, Niki Danielle Phillips and Meagan Charlotte Phillips (Chicago, IL); and one grandson Kieran William Carney. She was also survived by an older sister Laura Thompson (Jacksonville, FL) and her husband Earl Thompson, younger brother Daniel Kent (Keystone, FL) and his wife Deborah Stewart-Kent, younger sister Melody Kent (Jacksonville, FL) and a large number of dearly loved nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Life Celebration Wake will be held in her honor, at a private location on Friday, August 28th at 12:00, Noon.
