Alan Layne Patterson

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 3:00 pm at Tallahassee Memory Gardens, 4037 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Brother Derrick Burrus will be officiating the service. Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road.

Layne was born on October, 24, 1948, in Tallahassee to John (deceased) and LaVerne Patterson. Following his graduation from James S. Rickards High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps until returning to Tallahassee to work with his father at Patterson Heating and Air Conditioning. He took over running the family business after his father retired in 2001.

Layne was a loving husband, son and brother, father and grandfather, uncle and a great friend. His selfless manner had a remarkable impact on his family and all who knew him. Everyone was affected in some way by his generosity and compassion. His greatest enjoyment in life was family, hunting (scoring on the Florida Buck Registry), fishing, camping and spending time in the outdoors. His favorite past-time was collecting muscle cars memorabilia and attending car shows locally and nationally.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Sue; two daughters, Heather Patterson Judd of Tallahassee, Michelle Patterson Waltman (and husband Dale) of Navarre, FL; and four grandchildren, Colton Judd and Ryker Judd (Tallahassee), Karis Waltman and Hanna Waltman (Navarre, FL). Layne is also survived by his mother, LaVerne Patterson; and sister, Cynda Oliver (and husband Emerson) and their son, John Oliver, of Havana, FL. He left behind numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins along with dozens of nieces and nephews who truly loved and respected him.
