Abigail Waterman Hock entered into heaven on August 25, 2018, at 80 years old in Tallahassee, Florida. A Florida native, she was born in Quincy, Florida, to Marcus and Dorcas Waterman on September 27, 1937, and soon moved to Tallahassee where she resided with her husband Ronald Hock throughout their 60 years of marriage.
Gail graduated from Leon High School where she was a majorette. She attended Florida State University and participated in myriad activities as a Gamma Phi Beta and a member of the FSU Circus. In 1958 she married Ron Hock at Trinity United Methodist Church. They had two children: Rhonda Freeman and Randy Hock.
Her major community involvements extended through her roles as the President of the Junior Women's Club of Tallahassee and President of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). She was an award-recognized real-estate broker for over 32 years, where she helped form Killearn Brokers Realty, Inc. The diversity of her local interests contributed to her popularity to so many around town, as she was frequently recognized sporting her signature bonnets.
Mrs. Hock was a devoted art enthusiast. Through the Junior Women's Club she was instrumental in forming the LeMoyne Art Foundation over 50 years ago, and has been a continuous supporter, board member, and active patron ever since. Gail was engaged in all manner of local arts productions from plays, art shows, musical concerts, and the beloved enjoyment of ballroom dancing with husband, Ron. She participated in a Creative Homemaker's Group and "The Bridge Group," to which she was a dedicated participant, forming lifetime relationships beginning in the 1960s. By far the dearest place in her heart was reserved for the musical performances of her own children.
Gail was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she presided on the Board of Trustees, helped form the Help Each Other (HEO) group, and was a longstanding member of the Altar Guild Flower Committee. Her faith poured outside of the church walls through her dedication to visiting the sick, supporting the less fortunate, and encouraging her friends.
Gail is survived by her loving husband Erwin Ronald Hock, her daughter Rhonda Freeman and son-in-law Terry Freeman, son Randy Hock and daughter-in-law Kathie Hock, and her grandchildren Grace, Emily, and Bradford Freeman. She is also survived by her sister Janet Waterman Glaze and was predeceased by her brother Marcus Mills Waterman, Jr.
Visitation will be at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312, on Thursday, August 30, 2018, from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 120 West Park Ave, Tallahassee, FL 32301 on Friday, August 31, 2018, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to LeMoyne Arts, 125 North Gadsden Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301.
