Larry was born September 20, 1947, in Delhi, Louisiana. At an early age, he moved to Springhill, Louisiana where he spent his formative years. After graduating from high school, he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country for four years. After leaving the Air Force, he began working for United Engines in Oklahoma City where he was employed for over 39 years in the IT department; first starting as a computer operator and then as a computer programmer and the data processing manager. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work and dedication.
On June 8, 1968, Larry married his childhood sweetheart, Gail Towns. They would spend the next 56 years sharing their life and love together.
Larry enjoyed playing cards and board games with his family. He also enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, and watching old westerns. Larry was also an avid LSU football fan and proudly wore purple and gold. Geaux Tigers! But more than anything, he loved watching his grandkids play basketball.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents Paul and Myrtle Yates; and one brother Jerald Yates.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Gail; daughter Maraina Brown and husband Justin; his grandkids Jacob Alan Brown and Mary Kay Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Gentiva Hospice and Cherokee County Nursing Center for the exceptional care provided to Larry. Your incredible kindness, compassion, and support made a profound difference.
Donations can be made in memory of Larry to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
