Wilburn Lee ''Cotton" Davis was born November 20th 1936 to Rena Marie (Wilcox) Davis & Troy Franklin Davis in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Both family and friends affectionately knew him as ''Cotton" due to his white hair which he kept throughout the entirety of his life. In his youth, he enjoyed playing sports including baseball and wrestling. In 1955 he married Lueine Hensley with whom he had three children, Brenda, Kent & Sherry. He moved his family to California to work in the shipyards. He returned home with his family in the the late 50's. In 1967, he married LaVene Helterbrand and they had one child, Kimi. He prided himself on being a good salesman and started a church directory business. That business led to a move to Missouri where he developed additional businesses. In 1982, he returned home to Moodys where he ran the family farm. He had great love for horses, which included owning racehorses. He founded D&D stables with his son Kent. His horses won races in multiple states and even raced as far north as Minnesota. He enjoyed raising cattle and spent many evenings sitting out in the field in his truck or later on in his Cadillac watching the cows. He loved sitting in his chair and drinking his coffee while he planned out his day. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, bull riding and professional wrestling. He was always quick with a joke and loved to tell stories. He was one of the few people that can truly say they lived life to fullest and throughout his many adventures in life, he always valued his time with his family. He passed from this life on June 28th, 2024 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents Troy & Rena Davis, sister Lavena Watts, granddaughter Kendal Davis, and wife Robin Maxwell.
He is survived by his four children, Brenda Davis of Tahlequah, Kent Davis & wife Sheila of Moodys, Sherry Johnson & husband Charlie of Alma, Arkansas, Kimi Escoe of Hartshorne. Grandchildren Kristi Matlock & husband Troy of Welling, Lori Tinnin & husband Doyle of Moodys, Nick Davis & wife Brittany of Moodys, Holly Parnell & husband Logan of Alma, Arkansas, Chelsea Escoe of Hartshorne. Nephews Larry Watts & wife Laura of Moodys, Kevin Watts & wife Teri of Scappose, OR, Terry Watts & wife Tammy of Chickasha, OK, nieces Tammy Cathey & husband Jimmy of Indianola, OK, Lisa Camp & her husband Bobby of High Hill, OK, 13 great grandchildren & countless cousins and friends.
Graveside funeral services for Cotton will be 10:00am, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Moodys Cemetery in Moodys, OK with his grandson Nick Davis officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dale Davis, Keith Davis, Porter Neel, Larry Watts, Steve Crawford, and Gary Crawford. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Johnson, Doyle Tinnin, Terry Watts, Dale Wilcox, David Hicks and Steve Nolan.
