Wanda Lou (Hooper) Logan was born on November 4th, 1946 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of George Hooper, Sr. and Nancy (Breeden) Washington. She grew up with her four brothers and nine sisters, Gil “Bo”, George, Allen, Juan “Skeets”, Georgia, Joann, Shirley, Sue, Mary, Brenda, Sharon and Barbara. Wanda grew up in the Army bases around St. Louis, California, Colorado and ended in Tahlequah , OK, where she attended school at Sequoyah High school. She graduated from Webster High School, Tulsa, OK in 1965. Wanda attended NSU and obtained her Registered Records Administration degree. Wanda earned a living in Records Administration for both the Indian Health Services and the Veterans Administration in Muskogee, OK. She married the love of her life and her best friend, Phillip Logan on June 30th, 1984 at their home where so many happy memories and laughter was shared with everyone gathered around the dinner table. Gathering at Wanda’s was a tradition that began with her children’s daily kitchen raid with their friends to see what there was to eat. You were probably going to eat some of the best frybread, chicken and dumplings, and coconut, lemon and chocolate crème pies with a flakey, perfect crust. She took care and plenty of time to master the art of pie crust baking, but it was all hers after that. She loved to sew, do arts and crafts, and work on materials for her Sunday School presentations. She was the proud mother of seven children, Sheila, Ancel “Charley”, Roger, Jon, Phillip Dewayne, Robert and Amy. She adored her children and raised them to be the kind of friends and neighbors anyone would want in their lives. She then continued on with her twenty-three grandchildren, teaching them to place God and family before anything else in their lives and to treat everyone with dignity and respect! These were Wanda’s hallmarks. A Christian by faith , a true prayer warrior and a woman after God’s own heart, Wanda attended and donated her time, talent and resources to the New Greenleaf Baptist Church. She served in the capacity of treasurer, taught countless children how to worship God with her felt boards of biblical stories and time and patience. She performed magic tricks and made balloon animals, she baked cookies and dressed skinned knees. All of this to serve her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The door was always open. You didn’t need a reason to be at her home to eat, all were welcome. She served in the WOM and welcomed everyone to worship. She lived by example. She loved to see the world from Noah’s Ark to Israel, with Branson , MO in the itinerary for good luck! Her family described her as the “Feather Wall”, very soft and gentle, but the foundation held firm! Life wasn’t without its challenges, there were heartaches and moments of despair. Yet Wanda always turned these into positive ways to offer these moments to God and shine through. She became ill and fought with everything she had in her. She didn’t want to disappoint the people who depended on her. The Lord came for this good and faithful servant, this righteous woman of God, on December 8th, 2024 at her home surrounded by the family she loved and adored to the very end. She was 78 years old.
She has gone home to be with her grandparents, Duda and Mary Augusta (Candy) Bolin and Alvis and Bertha (Waters) Breeden. She also joins her mother, Nancy and father George. Her son Robert Logan and four sisters, Joann McKenzie, Shirley Kocher, Georgia Bender, and Veronica Sue Mata and one granddaughter, Morgan Barr are with her now.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of forty years, Phillip Logan of the home, and her children, Sheila Fields and husband Richard of Tahlequah, Ancel Barr III (Charley) and wife Eva of Tahlequah, OK, Roger Barr and wife Michelle of Tahlequah, Jon Logan and wife Dana of Grand Portage, MN, Phillip Dewayne Logan and wife Tressa of Tahlequah, OK, and Amy Nicole Logan of Tahlequah, OK. Wanda lives on in her 23 adored grandchildren, Jessica Macdonald, Audrey Howard, Miranda Ridge, Whitney Barr, Christopher Barr, Tyler Barr, Billy Barr, John Eric Brown, Jordan Barr, Raven Barr, Marisa Barr, Raven McNac, Randi McNac, Taryn Manthey, Marcus Logan, David Logan, T.J. Logan, Paige Christensen, Kaitlynn Logan, Robbie Logan, Sidney Logan, Tavariah Logan, and Chloe Gandy. Wanda and Phillip shared a deep love, a home and family with many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones far too numerous to mention.
